2015 Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards

The City of Ekurhuleni once again hosted and presented the annual national Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards. It is a contemporary fine art competition which caters for artists of all ages, producing various media of art works. This year’s competition was presented in collaboration with the Lizamore & Associates Mentorship Programme.

Held annually at the Coen Scholtz Recreation Centre in Birchleigh North, the awards aim to encourage artists to excel and compete with each other in order to create cutting edge visual arts products.

The competition reveals the hidden talent of many artists in the community, thus offering them the opportunity to be noticed by commercial galleries and collectors.

This year, the competition received 285 entries from all over the country, from which 84 works were selected to be in the 2015 exhibition and from these, the top 15 were chosen.

Kudakwashe’s entry, Bree Taxi Rank, was one of the few artworks selected to be exhibited at this event! To be selected is a great honour and recognition of being part of the contemporary SA art scene.
